Breed Standard for the Pomapoo Dog Breed

The Pomapoo, a delightful crossbreed between the Pomeranian and the Toy or Miniature Poodle, is a small, affectionate companion known for its charming personality and fluffy appearance.

General Appearance: The Pomapoo is a small-sized dog with a well-proportioned body and a sturdy build. Despite its diminutive stature, the Pomapoo exudes an air of confidence and elegance, standing proud and alert.

 

Size: Pomapoos typically range in size from 8 to 10 inches in height at the shoulder and weigh between 5 to 15 pounds, depending on factors such as genetics and the size of the Poodle parent.

 

Coat: The Pomapoo's coat is one of its most distinctive features, often inheriting the Pomeranian's dense, double-layered fur and the Poodle's curly or wavy texture. The coat may vary in color and pattern, with shades of white, cream, black, brown, sable, or a combination thereof. Regular grooming is essential to maintain the Pomapoo's coat in optimal condition, preventing matting and tangles.

 

Head and Expression: The Pomapoo's head is proportionate to its body, with a slightly rounded skull and a well-defined stop. The eyes are typically large, expressive, and dark in color, radiating intelligence and warmth. Ears may be small and triangular-shaped, erect or semi-erect, framing the face with an alert and attentive expression.

 

Body: The Pomapoo boasts a compact and well-muscled body, with a level topline and a moderately broad chest. The back is straight and strong, leading to a rounded rump and a gracefully arched tail. The tail may be carried high over the back or may have a gentle curve, adding to the breed's overall balance and symmetry.

 

Legs and Feet: Pomapoos possess straight and slender legs with small, compact feet and well-arched toes. The hindquarters are well-developed, providing the Pomapoo with the agility and athleticism characteristic of the breed. The Pomapoo — also known as the Pooranian, Pomeroodle, Pompoo, Pompapoo, Pomdoodle, and Pom-A-Poo — is a designer breed created by crossing a Pomeranian with a Toy or Miniature Poodle. Animal Corner traces the Pomapoo back to the late 1980s and early 1990s, when breeders began intentionally mixing purebred dogs to create designer breeds. The Pomapoo combines the Pomeranian's fluffy double coat, confident personality, and watchful nature with the Poodle's renowned intelligence and low-shedding hypoallergenic coat. Because the Pomapoo is a crossbreed — a hybrid of Pomeranian and Poodle — the American Kennel Club (AKC) does not register Pomapoos, Pooranians, Pompoos, or any Pomeranian and Poodle cross. AKC registers purebred Pomeranians and purebred Poodles individually, but any cross between the two is permanently ineligible for AKC registration regardless of generation (F1, F1B, or Multigen). Designer Kennel Club (DKC) was built specifically to serve Pomapoo owners and breeders who need official registration papers and cannot obtain them through AKC.

Designer Kennel Club provides official registration papers and ownership documentation for Pomapoos, Pooranians, Pomeroodles, Pompoos, Pompapoos, Pomdoodles, and Pom-A-Poos with no AKC papers or pedigree lineage required. DKC Foundation Dog Registration ($65) accepts any Pomapoo without existing documentation. For breeders, DKC Litter Registration ($100) gives each puppy an individual DKC registration number that new owners can use to register their Pomapoo puppy for $45. All registrations are completed online and papers are delivered as a PDF via email within 2–3 business days.
